The idea of a New Year's Resolution seems so great but just like 99% of the population, I rarely complete them. Still every year I set the same goals. Run more? Eat better? I promise I try but for a girl who's ideal day starts with ice cream for breakfast and includes 3-4 naps those goals are rather hard to accomplish. But what about setting beauty and style resolutions? Now that's more like it.
This year I've set 5 beauty and style related resolutions along with my usual list of health-related goals. I'm hoping that each of these goals will improve my personal style and in turn, improve this lovely blog! Without further adieu, here's my 5 Style Resolutions of 2016
This year I've set 5 beauty and style related resolutions along with my usual list of health-related goals. I'm hoping that each of these goals will improve my personal style and in turn, improve this lovely blog! Without further adieu, here's my 5 Style Resolutions of 2016
1. Nail Polish is a Thing. Learn to use it.
I NEVER paint my nails! It's disgusting. I honestly haven't painted my fingernails since my senior pictures in August. That FOUR months! Ew. It's not like I'm lacking the free time or the excessive nail polish collection to do so, but for some reason I can never bring myself to slap some color on my fingers. So in 2016 I'm going to paint my nails often because there's nothing like a colorless, unkept nail to ruin an otherwise perfect picture.
2. Rock Sunglasses Inside and Outside of the Car
Again, something I NEVER wear are sunglasses. I have a hideous pair of bright blue frames from my middle school punk rocker phase that I keep in my car to use only if the sun is blinding me but other then that, I never even think to put on sunglasses. Why? Couldn't tell ya. Sunglasses are literally the perfect accessory. In my obsessive stalking of other fashion blogs I've realized that they can make or break an outfit. They come in so many shapes and sizes, there's a pair that works perfectly for everyone! And a classic pair never goes out of style! They are good for so many reasons including the whole protecting your eyes from the sun's harmful rays thing. So this year I'm attempting to incorporate actually stylish (but still functional) sunnies into my daily looks.
3. Actually Wear Jewelry
I've been in a jewelry funk for the majority of my life. Here is my current jewelry routine (if that's a thing ??). I have a crucifix necklace I was given on my fist communion in second grade and a silver irish claddagh ring I received for my confirmation as a freshman. I have basically worn those items everyday since receiving them. I take them off to shower then instantly put them back on and that is that. As for a bracelet, I have a ratty piece of string that one of my best friends tied around my wrist as a symbol of our friendship in September. It has not yet come off. Around my ankles are two things that used to resemble colorful friendship bracelets but and now frayed, disheveled, and rather gray. These were made for me in April but I had the decency to take them off for prom in May. I put them back on the day after prom and haven't taken them off since. On the rare occasion that I wear earrings, I typically forget that I'm wearing them and they tend to stay in my ears for 2-3 weeks until notice them in my reflection. It is only then that I might consider taking them out and switching them for a new pair. This "routine" is sad. It needs to change. I'm going to change it in 2016.
4. Figure out how to Look Semi-Stylish in Sub-Zero Temps
In the later half of the year I will be moving to the Arctic. And by Arctic I mean Chicago. They call Chicago the Windy City for a reason and that reason is Lake Michigan. For those of you who aren't familiar with Loyola's campus, it could not be a foot closer to Lake Michigan. I am expecting to feel like I'm taking a trip to the North Pole as I walk to my classes and I'd like to think that I'll put on real, warm, sort of stylish clothing instead of following my instinct and wrapping myself in 6 blankets as I leave my dorm. A girl can dream, right? I'm making it a resolution so I can tell myself I at least thought about it when I show up to class with my cow print tie blanket.
5. Nail Down a Cold Weather Beauty Routine
As I mentioned previously, I will be attempting to survive the blisteringly cold Arctic winds of Chicago at the tail end of this year. While that eliminates the majority of possible outfit choices, it takes an even larger toll on ones skin/hair routine. Winter in Michigan is already hard enough on my dry hair. I'd like to figure out I way to prevent from becoming one giant knot come december. And with that, I'd like to find a way to save my face from dying in the wind too. So that's number 5, and I better act quickly on this one or I'll be in deep trouble in 11 months.
So those are my goals for 2016! Hopefully I'll find the motivation to complete them! If you have any suggestions for how I can complete them or want to share your own 2016 resolutions feel free to leave a comment. Xo
